Cosmetic Dentistry for the New Year
Looking to Cosmetic Dentistry in the New Year?
‘Tis the season of New Year resolutions. This time of year many decisions are made. Decisions about what we’re looking to change, improve, cease doing, start doing, etc. Many of us have use this time to reflect on, and make decisions about, how we look, particularly. In fact, cosmetic-based resolutions take up the lion share of all resolutions made in the USA. Whether it’s losing weight and getting fit, eating healthier, or exercising more, the general idea a lot of people have, is changing something you don’t like about yourself.
In fact cosmetic dentistry like Invisalign, teeth whitenings, veneers, and other cosmetic procedures are pursued more right after the beginning of a new year, than any other time of year. This is true for a lot of other cosmetic based improvements. The two months immediately following New Years are usually the time to get them due to different sales that are happening for New Years, helping to prompt you to move forward with your resolutions.
What can Cosmetic Dentistry do for you?
I’m going to break down a few different types of cosmetic dentistry, to help you see what kind of options are out there for you to consider:
- Cosmetic Bonding – Cosmetic bonding is a fairly simple procedure. “Bonding” itself is used in dentistry to mean, “the application of a tooth-colored resin material using adhesives and a very strong light for curing. The procedure gets its name because materials are bonded to the tooth. Bonding is typically used for cosmetic purposes to help with the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth.” I’ve seen some wondrous results from bonding. It’s one of the easiest and fastest ways to enhance your smile. It can help with chipped teeth, gaps in teeth, discolorations in teeth, or even to help “level” irregularly sized teeth, and lastly it can be used to replace old, unaesthetic fillings and give the appearance of natural tooth where a filling is needed. It’s also one of the least expensive procedures for cosmetic dentistry.
- Veneers – Tooth veneers are a fantastic method of reshaping/re-sizing/whitening your teeth. Although they are a bit more invasive of a procedure, cosmetic veneers can help you to produce the teeth/smile you have always wanted in only a couple of weeks. I’ve seen them used for many different reasons; from correcting discolored and “old looking” teeth, to filling in gaps in your smile. They can get the desired result you’re looking for very quickly.
- Invisalign – Invisalign is a form of orthodontia. They are a series of clear aligners that work to align, and straighten your teeth. Invisalign is quickly becoming the “go-to” form of orthodontia due to the fact that a. the aligners are clear and more aesthetically inclined than traditional braces, b. the patient can easily clean his/her teeth during treatment which will help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and c. the treatment itself is easy to do.
- Whitening – Tooth whitening is probably one of the quickest and most cost effective ways of enhancing your smile, cosmetically. From the more potent in-office whitening procedures to take home whitening trays, it’s easier now than ever to move your teeth a few shades whiter. This time of year there are many specials for whitenings out and about. In fact our dental office in Dupont Circle, Washington DC is actually running a whitening special in the month of January.
Here’s another article I wrote on some of the benefits of various cosmetic procedures.
